2026 Lambton Shores Accessibility Award

Editor: Randy Cousins
Date: 2026-06-18

We are proud to share that the Forest Curling & Social Club has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Lambton Shores Accessibility Award.

This award recognizes organizations that have made significant contributions toward removing barriers and creating opportunities for people of all abilities to participate fully in their community. The award was presented by Lambton Shores Council and the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee in recognition of our club’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

While our facility features accessible washrooms, an elevator to both the ice level and viewing areas, and adaptive curling equipment such as delivery sticks, this recognition is about much more than bricks and mortar. It reflects many years of dedication from volunteers, board members, sponsors, donors, and supporters who have worked together to ensure our club remains welcoming and accessible to everyone.

One of the most special things about curling is that it can truly be a lifelong sport. As the years pass, many curlers find they need to adapt how they play, whether through the use of a delivery stick, modified techniques, or other supports. Accessibility allows members to continue enjoying the game they love, maintaining friendships, competition, and the sense of community that makes curling so special. It helps keep the spirit of the sport alive for everyone, regardless of age, mobility, or physical ability.

We were especially honoured to host the 2025-2026 Two-Person Stick Delivery Provincial Championships, showcasing opportunities for wheelchair curlers and stick delivery athletes to compete at a high level while enjoying the camaraderie of the game. The feedback we received from the OCA was extremely positive.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed whether on the ice, or cheering from behind the glass, or volunteering your time, to making our club a place where all are welcome. This award belongs to all of you!

As the saying goes, curling may be a game of inches, but accessibility is about making sure everyone gets a chance to throw their first rock.

Congratulations and thank you for helping make our club a place where everyone can belong.
