Forest Curling Club Lighting Updates

Our curling club LED retrofit is now complete!

Forest Curling Club has just finished up with yet another significant club improvement!  

As part of our clubs ongoing effort to continually provide and improve upon a better curling experience, Forest Curling Club in association with our friends at Goertz Electric and Forest Community Foundation have just completed an LED lighting upgrade to our playing surface.

Work has just finished up again this summer as our friends at Goertz electric finish up running conduit and wiring to the 24 new LED lights that will be used to illuminate the playing surface at the club.

The new lighting will be replacing the aging and inefficient T5 fluorescent lighting that has been used up till now. The higher efficiency 24 LED lights are expected to provide better lighting at a lower energy cost. It is expected that the energy savings alone will help to mitigate the cost of the lighting upgrade, paying for it itself over the coming years.

By going with much smaller highly efficient lights we were able to replace the existing 44dual lamp fluorescent fixtures and their supporting infrastructure with 24 individual smaller fixtures.

The benefits from this project include; reduced energy costs, lighting that meets or exceeds recommended standards for curling clubs and a tremendously improved view from the lounge area and overall feeling of openness showing off our beautiful wood ceiling which pretty much was hidden by the old lights.  You would think we had the ceiling refinished!

Interesting facts, did you know:

• We replaced 88 fluorescent tubes each consuming 120w for a total energy consumption of 5000 watts
• Lighting on the playing surface is now provided by only 24 led fixtures.
• Each fixture can be adjusted to provide varying levels of illumination down onto the curling surface.
• Each LED fixture can produce up to 90 ft candles of illumination if required. Our previous fluorescent lights could only produce a maximum of 30 ft candles of illumination.
